A good running group should make you feel welcome from the first session. That doesn’t mean everyone needs to be chatty or extroverted, but it does mean you shouldn’t feel judged or pressured. Look for groups that clearly explain who they’re for, how sessions are structured, and whether different abilities are supported.

Consistency is another key factor. Groups that meet regularly, start on time, and communicate clearly tend to create better habits for runners. Knowing exactly when and where you’re expected removes friction and makes showing up easier — especially on days when motivation is low.
